Light Rail

The development of a light rail system (tram) over the period to 2040 is a major objective of Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy. 17 kilometres of light rail system will run from Mahon Point in the east of the city and on to Ballincollig in the west, with 25 stops including Kent Station.

This interconnected transport network will allow passengers to change between tram, rail and bus services when travelling to city centre and suburban destinations.

Route selection is now underway in advance of planning and detailed design. While the project is progressing the corridor will benefit from a new frequent 24 hour bus service.
